NYIRN

NYIRN: "WELCOME to the New York Industrial Retention Network's website! This site provides an exciting opportunity for networking with New York City's economic development community and for finding resources to help the City's manufacturing businesses. "

David Yassky - News

David Yassky - News: "Whenever the City allows a building to be converted from industrial use to another use, such as residential, the value of the property rises dramatically. Displaced businesses then have a hard time finding affordable, quality spaces in the City. Over the last 10 years, New York City has lost 100,000 manufacturing jobs due in large part to the Citys conversion policies. Since City policy creates this wealth, Yassky suggests that some be devoted to the businesses that are displaced, and invested in areas that remain devoted to manufacturing to keep good jobs in New York. "

Case Study - Education/Training - De Montfort University - Rapid Manufacturing Incubators: "In December 2000 the Engineering Forum and Leicester De Montfort University (DMU) were successful in accessing over 500K to build the world`s first business centre dedicated to the uptake of Rapid Manufacturing technology by small businesses. Building on the huge success of the Rapid Manufacturing Consortium managed by De Montfort and including companies such as Volvo, Ericsson, Martin Baker, TWR and GEC-Alstom, it was felt that SMEs and business start-ups could also benefit from new and emerging manufacturing technology, design and management research undertaken within DMU. A Theory-Driven Corporate Venturing Framework

http://ucsu.colorado.edu/~monsen/monsen_pizarro_cvf_v7.pdf
ABSTRACT
Currently there are no corporate entrepreneurship frameworks which explain why predominant modes of corporate venturing vary from country to country. To address this, we integrate institutional and resource dependence theory using the same basic structural contingency
framework adopted by earlier corporate venturing researchers for their internally focused frameworks. Using this model, we analyze the external institutional and economic conditions in the United States and Spain and the corresponding entrepreneurial activity.

INCUBATOR FIRM FAILURE OR GRADUATION?

http://mgt.gatech.edu/tiger/files/gt_tiger_incubator.pdf
Abstract
One of the theoretically important factors for incubator firm performance is the strength of their linkages to the research university sponsoring the technology incubator. Herein, we
focus on two types of university linkages to the sponsoring institution: a license obtained from the university and a link to university faculty, while controlling for incubator firm linkages to
non-sponsoring research universities, among other factors. We propose that a university link to the sponsoring institution reduces the probability of new venture failure and, at the same time,

relations, taxation, superannuation, occupational health and safety, local government, planning and tenancy laws.
2. The special needs and circumstances of small business, and the key factors that have an effect on the capacity of
small business to employ more people.
3. The extent to which the complexity and duplication of regulation by Commonwealth, state and territory government
inhibits growth or performance in the small business factor.
4. Measures that would enhance the capacity of small business to employ more people.

Thinking small reaps big results

Thinking small reaps big results: "To assist those businesses, cities and counties across the state have started building incubators, or offices designed to assist and promote fledgling companies. The state has helped fund many of these. So has the Appalachian Regional Commission, which cites entrepreneurship on its Web site as one of the keys to helping the entire region."

Interim Report of Task Force 10 on Science, Technology - UN

Create entrepreneurial universities and technical institutes that focus on business incubation and community development. A new view that places universities at the
center of the development process is starting to emerge. This concept is also being applied at other levels of learning, including colleges, research and technical institutes, and polytechnics. The age of entrepreneurial universities and research institutes
(including polytechnics) that are integrated into the productive sector has arrived. Universities are starting to be viewed as a valuable resource for business; the “entrepreneurial university” undertakes entrepreneurial activities with the objective of
improving regional or national economic performance, to its own and its faculty’s advantage.
